Microphones

Throughout the global history of EMI, Abbey Road has acquired probably the greatest in-house collection of vintage and modern microphones.

In recording, the colour and quality of sound you capture at the source is the most important part of the audio chain. Our collection has a colour for every occasion with microphones representing every stage of development from one of the earliest ribbons designed by Alan Blumlein in the 1930’s to the best releases from today.

All of the vintage microphones still use their original valves and diaphragms and are regularly maintained.

Insights

“I was a bit scared, actually. It seemed really big and there was a lot going on. It was fantastic, really, it was amazing. Going into a room with these massive speakers on the shelf because they were Tannoys and Lockwood cabinets and they were just on the shelf because they were just on the shelf, and they towered above you. ”

John Leckie
